As you probably already know, Pocket is shutting down its service on July 8, 2025. This means that you will no longer be able to access your articles and other content saved in Pocket after that date: the app and browser extension will stop working, and website will transition into export-only mode. You will be able to export your data until October 8, 2025.
Faved is a great alternative to Pocket. Not only it lets you seamlessly organize your links, articles, and other web content - it also gives you full control and ownership of your data. Faved database is stored locally on your computer or server, and is never sent to any third-party servers.
If you want to migrate your data from Pocket to Faved, you can do it in a few simple steps.
📤 Step 1: Export Your Data from Pocket
TIP
For some reason, Pocket does not include article excerpts and sometimes even titles in the export file for articles not attached to a collection.
If you don't already have all your Pocket articles attached to collection(s), create a new collection in Pocket and add all your saved articles to it. This will improve the quantity and quality of data Pocket will include in the export file.
- Go to the Pocket export page https://getpocket.com/export. Sign in to your Pocket account if you’re not already logged in.
Click on the Export CSV file link to initiate the data export process. It will take a few minutes to prepare the file for download. When the export file is ready, you will receive a message to the email address linked to your Pocket account.
NOTE
Even though it says export can take up to 24 hours, the download link usually arrives in less than five minutes.
- Check your inbox for email with subject Update on your Pocket data export. Click the provided link and download your export file. This will be a ZIP file containing all your saved and archived article links, tags, collections, and notes.
📥 Step 2: Import Your Data to Faved
- Open Faved in browser and go to the Import from Pocket page.
- Click Choose file and select the ZIP file you downloaded from Pocket. You don't need to unzip it, Faved will do it for you.
- Click the Import Bookmarks button to start the import process. Faved will read the ZIP file and extract the data from it. This will take just a few seconds depending on the size of your export file.
- Once the import is complete, you will see a success message with the number of bookmarks imported.
✅ Step 3: Review Your Imported Links and Ensure Everything Looks Good
- All imported bookmarks will have Imported from Pocket tag.
- Unread and Archived bookmarks will be assigned corresponding tags under Status parent tag.
- Collections will be imported as tags under Collections parent tag.
- Collection descriptions will be preserved as tag descriptions.
- Collection bookmark notes will be saved as bookmark comments.
If you notice any issues with the imported data, feel free to open an issue on GitHub. If you have any questions or suggestions, you can also reach out by opening a discussion here.
